Grappa (Bijoux di Lacrima)
The Grappa produced at Antica Cantina Sant Amico is a mono-varietal using only the finest Lacrima di Morro D’Abla grape vinaccia due to its characteristic and unique flavours that permeate within the Grappa upon distillation.
Grappa shares a very strong connection to Italy’s heritage and has been part of our winery’s foundations since it first established in 1850. The distillation process is an ancient practice that can be traced back to 1st Century AD through the practices performed in Eygpt, to first historically references of the technology making its way to Italy in 13-1400’s, most likely by route of Crusades. It is a fascinating tale of innovation that has moved from equipment used in early distillation methods in the 1600’s, all the way to present day innovations including the use of steam and vaccums to further refine the grape varietals flavours.

Wine Pairing
Whilst primarily placed to serve as a digestif at the end of a meal, our grappa (bijoux di lacrima) also works well as a cooking ingredient to add something new to the palette, as well as being a versatile and diverse essential for cocktails and long drinks. Below is a list of principle serving suggestions we recommend accompanying this spirit:
- Forest Fruit and Grappa Trifle with Mascarpone and vanilla cream
- Apple cooked in grappa topped with butter cream sauce
- Grappa and Lemoncello cocktail with squeezed lemon juice served with a slither of lemon peel
